Yobe sets up committee to source, manage funds to boost education sector
The Yobe State Government has approved the a six-man committee to serve as Board of Trustees of the State’s Education Trust Fund (YETFUND).
The Board is to, among other things, receive, execute and account for all donations as well as partner to ensure effective and judicious administration of the fund in reviving the education sector in the state, in accordance with the Companies and Allied Matters Act, 2020.
Shuaibu Abdullahi, Press Secretary to the Secretary to the Yobe State Government, in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Sunday, indicated that Engr. Muhammad Ali Kachalla Abubakar is to serve as the Chairman of the Board, while Mohammed Bukar; Malam Sule Dauda; Alh. Ballama Manu; Prof. Maimuna Waziri are members with Prof. Mamman Yusuf Yusufari, SAN, as Secretary.
The appointments, which take immediate effect, followed an approval by Governor Mai Mala Buni, according to the statement.
Recall that, the state government had planned to deduct ten percent of workers’ November salaries to boost education, a move that generated wider criticism where NLC in the state agreed on 2.5%.
The government subsequently bowed to pressure and suspended the planned deductions but said that civil servants can make personal donation to the course voluntarily.
